.appearance
Aqua isn’t the first girl to pop into your mind when you think of beautiful, but Lord, she certainly is a looker. Her silky cerulean hair is cropped into a spiky style, the top layer unruly and sticking out helter-skelter around her head, and the bottom splayed in tendrils against the back of her neck. She has sapphire eyes like the deepest mountain lake, framed by thick, dark lashes and filled with a gentle compassion and determination. Wintry skin flawlessly accentuates her increasingly attractive facial features, though less is shown once you move on down.
Aqua’s figure is also not something you can scoff at. Her body is one many girls her age would kill for, and you can perfectly tell. She is tall, though not extremely so, and statuesque, with a demeanor that both allures and intimidates men. Though she tries to be modest, there is simply no hiding of her long, slender limbs, skinny little waist, and perfectly curved hips. Plus she’s got quite a generous busom area, if you know what I mean, and it doesn’t go unnoticed, much to her embarrassment.
Clothes are completely unique and perfectly tailored to her profession as a Keyblade wielder, allowing her an endlessly wide range of movement and never hindering her agile movements. Her navy turtle-necked halter top, tight shorts that show off her perfect little butt, and long stockings reaching to her mid-thigh are all made of flexible, athletic material that still manages to look stunning on her. Also on her body is a black corset with white laces (that somehow doesn’t impede her movement in any way) and long sky blue sashes secured with yet another thick white ribbon, both of which swirl about her as she walks..battle
Aqua is a very tricky woman to fight. She is second only to Master Xehanort in terms of magical skills among Keybladers, surpassing Terra, Ven, and even her own Master. She has even created her very own variations upon the Fire, Blizzard, and Thunder spells, and she is able to cast Barrier nearly indefinitely, essentially giving her a 360 degree range of defense at all times. Her physical capabilities lie in agile dodging, able to flip and cartwheel away from attacks smoothly and effectively. If she did have to fight one-on-one with someone, she would probably cloak her Keyblade in ice or poison, since though she is a Master and she is a formidable fighter, she does not have complete trust in her speed and especially not in her strength..personality
You wouldn’t think Aqua was barely older than a sappy, emotional little teenager. She is resourceful and responsible, very austere but able to have a laugh with close friends once in a while. However cold she may seem, she is also rather kind-hearted and is always a sucker for a sob-story, offering her shoulder to cry on but rarely taking one herself. A motherly streak runs through her, making its appearance whenever young children are around or she’s with Ven. She fawns over the younger boy, enjoying playing with his hair and fussing over his every little injury. That maternal behavior has lessened over the years, as she has accepted the fact that Ven has grown much more capable of taking care of himself. But still, one can see that fond gleam in her eyes whenever she’s around him, or the protective spark whenever a villain makes their appearance in the two’s presence.
Aqua holds her relationship with the Master and Terra in very high esteem, keeping her faith in Terra until the very end, and even past that. This blind belief that her friends will never resort to evil can be dangerous, such as her little run in with the possessed form of her closest comrade. She grew up with Terra, training by his side, and was raised by Master Eraqus serving as her sole parent. Though she was without a significant mother figure, she was able to take care of herself, steeling her emotions into a tough but smooth shell. This lack of tender, feminine love resulted in Aqua becoming rather bad at expressing her true feelings, causing some situations to take quite an awkward turn. Take her encounter with Zack, for an example. With no earthly clue how to react to such an outgoing request, or any experience with being flirted with, she was clearly quite flustered and frazzled by this sudden intrusion on her sheltered life.
Aqua continues to be very loyal and open-minded, though she isn’t too fond of people drenched in total darkness. However, she will never just blindly attack you without knowing who you are, and even then, she will probably give you a bit of a warning. She has taken her Master’s advice to heart as to keeping the darkness from her heart, which isn’t a huge surprise. Ever since her childhood, she followed his word to boot, from tips about how to hold her Keyblade when casting Firaga to life lessons. In some ways, this served her well. But in others, it caused her to turn a blind eye to the faults in her friends, which is one of the reasons she was trapped in the Realm of Darkness.
In short, Aqua is a severe but affectionate young woman who has a bit of a struggle letting her own emotions free..history
In some ways, a younger Aqua wanted to be just like than Terra. She wanted to outsmart him, she wanted to challenge him. She wanted to be his equal. But in others, she purposefully held herself back. Like in training. She shied away from the hardcore physical training she had watched the older apprentice dutifully perform, instead lingering in the back garden and practicing magic on trees and stone structures, spellbooks stacked one on top of the other upon the bench she typically studied at. They did have little play duels, where, admittedly, Aqua would gain a bit of a competitive streak and try to beat Terra. But she knew that becoming a Master just like Eraqus had been his life’s dream.
Aqua had different dreams. They wavered from girlish whims of finding her knight in shining armor, to travelling across the worlds as a scientist, learning all she possibly could while protecting the innocent citizens with her Keyblade. It wasn’t until she was about twelve years old that her aspirations settled on becoming a Keyblade Master, and at that point, it became her sole ambition. Her magical skills rapidly developed, mastering Blizzaga after three tries and melding it into her own special technique, Triple Blizzaga, by the time she was thirteen. She took her own spin on a myriad of different spells, impressing both her Master and Terra. But still she left the physical prowess to her fellow apprentice.
Ven was a different story. He barely affected her studying habits, except by making them better, since she turned into both an older sister figure and a magic tutor. She’d teach him the correct direction to blast that fireball so it would swerve and catch an enemy by surprise. She’d duck as he tossed his Keyblade cloaked in ice about the courtyard, laughingly brushing off any injuries she acquired and that he continuously apologized for. In time he began teaching himself some, and so Aqua effortlessly melted back into the mothering, affectionate best friend. The elder girl was increasingly gentle to him; she very rarely got irritated with him and even there it was only perhaps a petulant comment that she instantly regretted. She was so terrified of hurting him she refrained from even teasing him unless it was perfectly clear she was kidding.
Was it that she was truly that protective over him that she didn’t even trust herself to poke fun at him? Or was it simply that she wanted to differ herself from Terra, who the blond seemed to admire so much?
All those thoughts were placed aside when she heard the words “Only Aqua has shown the Mark of Mastery.”
She didn’t care a whit that she had passed. All she could see was the shocked look on Terra’s face, and knew that her own mirrored it. She had played through this moment in her head so many times, and it hadn’t been this. They had both become Masters. And sometimes, she imagined it would be just Terra. Never had she imagined that it would be just her. If she could have given it up, she would have.
She never wanted to be better than Terra.
Aqua wanted to embrace him, tell that is was all a mistake, and assure herself that something had gone wrong and it could all be taken again tomorrow and it would be fine. But somehow she knew that there would be no second chance for her best friend, and that tore her apart. The way he avoided her gaze told her that there was a sense of bitterness in him, however small it might have been or who it was directed towards, either himself, her, or the Master. And she didn’t blame him. She was younger than him, she was smaller than him, and she hadn’t been training as long as him. She was inferior to him in every other way. And here she was, a Master. A title she didn’t want, if Terra didn’t have it.
In a sense, she was angry at the Master, not giving her any time at all just to talk it out with her fellow apprentice. But in another, she thought it would be a good experience for him. And just him. Ven was supposed to stay home and continue his training so he would someday reach their rank as well, but he had to run after Terra like a little puppy and leave Aqua completely alone.
It ruined her when he left. All that motherly instinct, dished out in small quantities whenever he injured himself or Terra teased him a bit too much, flat-out overflowed. She went after him without a second thought, determined to drag him back home and never let him out of her sight again.
But she also wanted to atone to Terra. She worried that this blow to his self-confidence would leave a chasm that darkness would seal. If the Master had just let him pass, or at least be a bit less blunt, perhaps it wouldn’t have turned out like it did. Him getting upset and her not being able to comfort him.
Aqua’s adventures through the worlds were exciting, but trials. She wanted to find both Terra and Ven and try to reason with them. She would have tied them up and ranted in their ears if she had to, but she never got the chance. It was always a little early or a little late. Her new friends were nice, but they were nothing compared to the man she grew up with and the boy that had become her younger brother in almost every possible way except genetics.
And then there was Radiant Garden.
It had started out on a light note, with Ven handing out passes to DisneyTown, referring to Terra and Aqua as ‘grown-ups’ and inspiring an exchanged glance and a laugh from the both of them. But after that, Aqua’s concern for Terra managed to claw its way to the surface in precisely the wrong way. But what she had said could not have been taken back. She tried to get him to listen, tried to explain that the Master was simply worried and that was why he sent her to watch him. Leaving out the part that it had been her own decision as much as his. He turned a deaf ear to her pleas and left the remaining two stunned. But the way Ven dutifully jumped to the eldest apprentice’s defense took the cake.
She had lost her chance to bring them home. All because of her poor choice of words.
When she reached the Mysterious Tower, she was told her Master had been struck down. And that her Terra had been the accomplice of Xehanort in doing so. Her tears were barely held back at that moment. Disbelief, grief, rage, and confusion all fought for supremacy inside her, but she held them back. But still, one could tell that she was hurting inside. The Master had been like her father as much as he had been to Terra; it took all her willpower not to scream at Yen Sid that what he said could not have been true.
But at the Keyblade Graveyard, her best friend told her that he was responsible. And, though he didn’t see it, she shed a single tear. For her Master, and for Terra. Knowing he would have to live with that guilt. He seemed to forgive her for taking his spot as Master, and she forgave him for…what had happened to Eraqus. Though she was certain that it had been Xehanort who had truly committed the crime.
And then began the talk of the X-blade, a weapon shrouded in mystery to the mage. She knew simply that the creation of it would harm her precious Ven and it would also destroy the worlds if it fell into the wrong hands. Or any hands for that matter. So she set out to destroy it.
The battle of her lifetime began. Somehow Terra was separated from her, and though she didn’t think much of it then, it would be the last time she would see him. In her mind, she regretted the moment, wished she had followed him, wished she could have kept him safe. But in her mind, she knew that Ven had needed her as well. What would have happened to him had she not been there to catch him when Xehanort dropped his frozen body from the cliff? She was outnumbered. There weren’t enough Aquas to balance out her two best friends. So she had to keep Ven safe for now, and do everything in her power to get Terra back later. Terra was only fighting an old man, anyway. Ven was going to be used to create a weapon of mass destruction. But though she had vowed to at least keep one safe, all her plans were ruined when Vanitas struck her down from above.
The last word she heard Ven speak was her name. And that made it all the more painful.
It went against every instinct in her body to battle Vanitas in Ven’s body. She winced whenever she hurt him, but steeled herself when he mercilessly tossed her into a column of rock. This was not Ven anymore. If she defeated this dark enigma, she would have him back. So she destroyed the X-blade. Oblivious to the fact that in doing so, she lost Ventus.
When she found herself again at Yen Sid’s tower, where it seemed bad news was always revealed, she learned of her friend’s state and the disappearance of Terra. Aqua had no other choice. She had to make certain that Ven was safe, and then find Terra. So she sorrowfully made her way to her dilapidated home world with Ven on her back, placing him upon a throne and sealing the world’s Keyhole away, turning it into Castle Oblivion. And with one last fond little pet to Ven’s hair, she was gone.
Not necessarily ‘gone.’ But she would never again return, though she yearned to.
Much like what had happened to Ven, she found Terra with golden eyes and he didn’t seem to recognize her. But there was a difference. He had silver hair and he was trying to strangle her. He let her go, no doubt by the influence of Terra, and she was forced to fight him, though it was just as painful as her battle with Ven. And it resulted to just as much; her losing him.
Aqua watched as her childhood playmate and confidante unlocked his heart. She didn’t know what she said, all she knew was that she screamed. She didn’t take the care to remember what word, or lack thereof, that had escaped her lips. It didn’t matter. All she cared about then was Terra. Saving him from the fate that had befallen her beloved Ventus. And that blind trust and concern resulted in the predicament she is today; she gave up her armor and Keyblade to send who she thought was her best friend back to the Realm of Light, and allowed herself to sink into the depths of darkness.
